First-half Run Lifts Lasell Men's Basketball Past Emmanuel

2018 Feb 7

Lasell College used a 26-4 run over a 10-minute span in the first half of play to put away host Emmanuel College, 84-64, Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball action on the Andy Yosinoff Court.

Four Lasers scored in double figures in the game, led by a 22-point outing from sophomore guard Stefan Masciarelli (Northbridge, Mass.). Junior Tim Blair (Newington, Conn.) added 14 points in the victory and seniors Derek McMahon (Hatfield, Mass.) and Scott Arsenault (Walpole, Mass.) chipped in with 12 points apiece.

Lasell captured its third straight triumph to even its overall record at 11-11 and improve to 9-4 in the GNAC, while Emmanuel drops to 2-20 overall and 1-12 in the conference.

After the Saints took a 14-9 lead five minutes into the action, the Lasers dominated all facets of the game over the next 10 minutes. They put together a 26-4 run to take control with a 35-18 lead with six minutes remaining in the half. Lasell had a balanced attack during the rally, with Masciarelli scoring six points and Arsenault and Blair five each, while freshman Victor Collazo (Clearwater, Fla.) added four points and McMahon and freshman Liam Jacobs (Plainfield, Conn.) three each.

Emmanuel was unable to take advantage of several Laser turnovers before the end of the half and trailed 46-30 heading into the break.

Blair drained a three to open the second half and give the Lasers a 19-point cushion (49-30) for their largest lead of the night. EC sophomore Blake Hardy (Waterbury, Conn.) buried a three-ball with 12 minutes remaining to cut the lead to 12 (58-46) but it was the closest the hosts would get.

The Lasers extended the lead to over 20 points on another Blair triple to put the visitors ahead 75-54 with just over six minutes to play. Emmanuel was unable to rally as Lasell coasted to the 84-64 road victory.

Both teams are idle until Saturday, February 10, when the Saints hit the road to play Regis College at 1:00 PM in more GNAC action and Lasell returns home to host Suffolk University at 4:00 PM in a GNAC encounter.
