Lasell Field Hockey Closes Regular Season with 4-0 Win over Framingham

2017 Oct 31

The Lasell field hockey team closed its best season in program history with a 4-0 victory over non-league foe Framingham State on Thursday afternoon at Grellier Field.

Lasell ends the 2017 campaign with a 15-3 overall record, while the Rams drop to 3-15 in their season finale.

Recently named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week, Samantha Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) scored two goals with one assist to tie the single-season points record at 45. The record was previously set by teammate Cailin Flannery (Newton, N.J.), who accounted for the remaining two goals in Lasell's 10th shutout victory.

The Lasers broke open the scoring in just the third minute, as Taylor locked in her 16th goal of the season with a redirected shot from a rebound. Flannery tried to sneak in her first of the game at 13:10, but Framingham's Meaghann Ackerman (Littleton, Mass.) stood tall as the last line of defense, recording the fourth defensive save of her career.

A minute later, Taylor lined up for a penalty corner, as the Lasers moved the ball around the shooting circle. Flannery gave Taylor a pass from the outside, giving Lasell a 2-0 lead that would carry them into halftime.

Senior Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.) had one save in the first half, as classmate Brianna Kulvete (Templeton, Mass.) came in for second half relief. Kulvete stopped the Rams' only shot on net in the second frame, as Flannery scored both concluding goals for the 4-0 final.

Landry improves to 15-3 overall, while Haley Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) drops to 3-15 with four saves in the effort.

The Lasers await their GNAC postseason fate, and will face the winner of Saturday's first round matchup between #5 Mount Ida and #4 Johnson & Wales. The semifinal contest will be hosted at Grellier Field on Wednesday, November 1, for a 3:00 p.m. start.
