Lasell Juniors Earn United Soccer Coaches All-New England Region Honors

2017 Dec 4

Juniors Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) and Sabrina Morais (Arlington, Mass.) of the Lasell College women's soccer team both earned United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-New England Team Region honors, as announced on Wednesday evening.

Zdanek was one of five midfielders named to the All-Region First Team, while Morais earned Second Team honors as a defender. The selection marks the first time for both Zdanek and Morias.

The Lasell duo join five other Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) student-athletes -- Kali Trunca, Olivia Cairrao & Deja Hursey as well as Emily DeLuca & Haley DeGraca of St. Joseph's College of Maine -- as All-Region selections.

Tabbed as GNAC Player of the Year, Zdanek recorded a team-high 38 points, including 17 goals for the Lasers in 19 games. Of Zdanek's goals, seven were game-winners for the Lasers. In the GNAC Championship, Zdanek would net both Lasell goals versus Johnson & Wales in a 2-0 victory, lifting the Lasers to their eighth straight conference title. Zdanek recorded a career-high 76 shots, with 46 on-goal.

Morais joined Zdanek on the All-GNAC First Team announced earlier this month. In her junior campaign, Morias recorded one goal and two assists for the Lasers, putting 11 of her 20 shots on-goal.For her lone goal of the season, Morais capitalized on a penalty-kick enroute to the Lasers 5-0 victory over conference foe Norwich on October 18th. Morais helped anchor a Lasell defense that boasted ten shutouts for the second consecutive season, with only 20 goals-against all season.

Lasell finished the 2017 campaign with a 10-1-0 conference record, finishing the season 13-6-0 with their eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
