Lasell Lasers Women's Field Hockey Shuts Out Wheelock 8-0

2017 Sep 12

The Lasell women's field hockey team extended its undefeated start to the season with an 8-0 victory over Wheelock College on Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field.

The Lasell victory marks the second shutout of the season, as the Lasers had two multi-goal performances from Samantha Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) and freshman Megan Horrigan (Wakefield, Mass.), who each netted two goals apiece. Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.), Erin Murray (Lexington, Mass.), Leah Sullivan (Mansfield, Mass.), and Nikki Pignone (Ipswich, Mass.) accounted for the remainder of Lasell's high scoring affair.

Taylor got the offense going in the 8th minute of play on an unassisted goal to the bottom right corner of the net. Horrigan struck four minutes later with her first collegiate goal on a cross from Sullivan to make the score 2-0, before the Lasers extended the advantage to 3-0 with 15 left to go in half one, as Taylor fed Connors on a penalty corner.

Lasell put the game away with five goals in the concluding 35. Pignone, Flannery, Taylor, Murray and Horrigan all got on the board for Lasell in the frame.

Senior Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.) earned the win in net, without being contested in 35 minutes of action. Classmate Brianna Kulvete (Templeton, Mass.) came in for the Lasers for second-half relief.
